Our Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
VPN Unlimited by KeepSolid is a commendable VPN service with an overall rating of 7.1 based on our evaluation criteria. It offers satisfactory local connection speeds and is effective in bypassing censorship in China. Additionally, it successfully unblocks popular streaming services such as US Netflix, HBO Max, and BBC iPlayer. The service is user-friendly, but it falls short in a few areas. It is not the most reliable option regarding privacy, as it temporarily logs users’ IP addresses and has not undergone independent audits. Furthermore, it is not recommended for torrenting purposes.

Pros & Cons
Pros:
- High-speed performance
- Effective access to streaming platforms
- Dedicated servers for P2P torrenting
- Simple setup across major platforms
- Servers in 50 countries
- Lifetime subscription option available
Cons:
- Collects extensive user information

VPN Unlimited is a robust choice for users seeking a VPN with reliable speeds and access to streaming services. It provides dedicated servers for streaming and peer-to-peer (P2P) activities. Aimed primarily at beginners, it lacks some of the advanced features found in top-tier VPNs but remains secure with AES-256 encryption and a functional kill switch.
The service excels at unblocking streaming platforms, including US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, and HBO Max. However, its privacy practices are concerning, particularly given its logging policy and US jurisdiction. Consequently, it is not the best choice for users prioritizing anonymity.
In summary, while VPN Unlimited is a solid option for those focused on streaming content, more well-rounded and privacy-conscious VPN alternatives are available.

Privacy & Logging Policy
Logs Data Temporarily
Privacy & Logging Policy Rating: 3.8/10
VPN Unlimited by KeepSolid exhibits a concerning logging policy compared to its no-logs competitors such as Private Internet Access and PrivateVPN. The service retains your real IP address and server IP address during your session, although this data is deleted upon disconnection. The combination of this logging practice with VPN Unlimited’s US jurisdiction raises significant privacy concerns, making it challenging to recommend the service for users prioritizing strict anonymity.

Company Overview
VPN Unlimited is operated by KeepSolid Inc., a company established in 2013 by Oleg Bocharnikov and Vasiliy Ivanov. Originally founded as Simplex Solutions in Odessa, Ukraine, KeepSolid Inc. is now incorporated in the United States with its headquarters located in New York.
The US-based jurisdiction poses significant privacy concerns, as US law enforcement agencies can compel the company to log and disclose customer data. According to its privacy policy, VPN Unlimited may disclose personal data to comply with legal requirements.
While VPN Unlimited’s policy of retaining personally identifiable information (such as your IP address) only for the duration of your session offers some reassurance, the potential for data to be handed over without user consent is troubling. Consequently, VPN Unlimited is not suitable for users seeking total anonymity.
Logging Policy
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited’s logging policy falls short of optimal privacy standards. Although it maintains a level of privacy sufficient for many users, the following data is collected:
- Original IP address
- Browser type
- Operating system
- Device ID
- Time zone
- Connection type
- WiFi network name
This data is deleted after each VPN session, which mitigates some privacy concerns. However, the service retains non-sensitive aggregated data, including:
- Total amount of data used per session
- Session dates
- Number of devices using KeepSolid products
- Version of the app used
While this aggregated data is less of a privacy risk, the lack of clarity on its retention period undermines trust in VPN Unlimited’s commitment to user privacy.
Speed
Slower Than Its Rivals
Speed Rating: 8.1/10
Recent speed tests indicate that VPN Unlimited provides adequate speeds, but it does not compete with the fastest VPNs on the market. We observed an average speed reduction of 29% on local connections, placing it on par with lower-tier VPNs such as PureVPN and X-VPN. Additionally, its international speeds are relatively underwhelming, with an average of 71 Mbps, which ranks among the slowest international speeds we have recorded.
Ranked #39 out of 62 VPNs for Speed
Here’s a table showing VPN Unlimited’s speed test results:
No VPN (New York) | US (New York) | Canada (Toronto) | US (Los Angeles) | UK (London) | Germany (Berlin) | Brazil (São Paulo) | Japan (Tokyo) | South Africa (Johannesburg) | Australia (Sydney) | |

As indicated by the data, VPN Unlimited exhibits relatively slow speeds for both local and international connections. While it is not the slowest VPN available, it falls short in comparison to many competitors that consistently achieve speeds exceeding 90 Mbps.
Notably, VPN Unlimited’s performance to locations such as Brazil (40 Mbps) and Australia (45 Mbps) is particularly underwhelming. Although these locations are distant from our test base in the US, other VPNs, such as Hotspot Shield, achieve average international speeds of 71 Mbps.
For a clearer perspective, the following chart compares VPN Unlimited’s local and international speeds with those of other VPN services:
Ping Times
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited offers respectable ping times, averaging approximately 6 ms for local connections in New York and 73 ms for connections to the UK.
However, the VPN’s download speeds are not optimal for gaming. Overall, there are more cost-effective VPN options available that provide superior speeds and lower latency.
Server Locations
Good Server Coverage in
Server Locations Rating: 8.2/10
VPN Unlimited boasts a network of 500 servers across 50 countries. While not the largest network available, it provides a solid spread that will likely meet the needs of most users. The service also offers a substantial number of city-level options.
Ranked #19 out of 62 VPNs for Server Locations

Continent | Number of Countries |
---|---|
Europe | 34 |
Asia | 10 |
South America | 3 |
North America | 4 |
Africa | 3 |
Oceania | 2 |
VPN Unlimited provides a well-sized network, covering popular locations in 50 countries. However, if you require access to servers in less commonly covered regions, other VPN services may offer better options.
Regarding individual servers, VPN Unlimited has a relatively modest total of just over 500.
Customer support did not disclose the number of IP addresses available, citing policy restrictions. This raises concerns that the total may not exceed 500.
This is notably less compared to some competitors, such as VyprVPN, which offers over 200,000 IP addresses. Consequently, server congestion could become an issue, potentially impacting performance.
In the United States, VPN Unlimited provides a solid distribution of servers, spanning 13 cities from the East Coast (Florida) to the West Coast (California), including Texas in the South.
European coverage is also strong, with city-level servers in the UK, France, and Germany. In Asia, VPN Unlimited offers servers in Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea, with an additional server in Turkey bridging the continental divide. However, South American coverage is limited to Brazil and Chile, and Africa is only represented by South Africa.
VPN Unlimited made a prudent decision to withdraw its servers from India in response to the introduction of data retention laws.
Streaming
Access to US Netflix & BBC iPlayer
Streaming Rating: 9.0/10
VPN Unlimited effectively unblocks a wide range of major streaming services, including Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. This capability allows access to a substantial amount of content and positions VPN Unlimited as one of the top VPNs for bypassing geo-restrictions.
Ranked #13 out of 62 VPNs for Streaming
Streaming Platforms Unblocked by VPN Unlimited:
Streaming Platform | Works with VPN Unlimited |
---|---|
Amazon Prime Video | Yes |
BBC iPlayer | Yes |
Channel 4 | No |
Disney+ | Yes |
Hotstar India | No |
Hulu | Yes |
ITVX | No |
Max | Yes |
Netflix US | Yes |
VPN Unlimited is an excellent option for accessing video streaming platforms, particularly when compared to other mid-range VPN services like Avast SecureLine.
Thanks to its optimized servers, VPN Unlimited offers swift and seamless access to a variety of streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, HBO Max, and Hulu.
VPN Unlimited also features dedicated streaming servers for the following platforms:
- ESPN+
- Hotstar
- Popcornflix
- Rai.tv
- Sony Crackle
The service consistently performs well in unblocking these online streaming platforms, demonstrating exceptional reliability and positioning itself as one of the most dependable VPNs available.
Torrenting
Slow P2P Servers
Torrenting Rating: 4.5/10
VPN Unlimited is not well-suited for torrenting. Torrenting websites are restricted on US servers, and the service provides only three dedicated torrenting servers, all of which exhibit notably slow average bitrates. Additionally, its logging policy does not ensure robust privacy protection during file sharing.
Ranked #41 out of 62 VPNs for Torrenting
Torrenting Test Results:
Torrenting Attribute | Result |
---|---|
Average Download Bitrate | 4.1MiB/s |
No. of P2P Servers | 500 |
Logging Policy | Some User Logs |
Kill Switch | Yes |
Port Forwarding | No |
VPN Unlimited excels in streaming but falls short in the torrenting arena. It offers a sluggish average bitrate speed of 1.5 MiB/s, significantly lower compared to ExpressVPN, which achieves 9.4 MiB/s under similar conditions.
Torrenting Website Restrictions on US Servers
On January 13, 2022, VPN Unlimited agreed in a US court to block BitTorrent traffic and restrict access to major torrenting websites on its US servers. This agreement followed allegations from film studios that VPN Unlimited was facilitating copyright infringement by its subscribers.
As of March 15, 2022, our tests confirm that these restrictions are actively enforced. The websites shown in the image below are blocked by a firewall when connected to a US VPN Unlimited server. Additionally, the dedicated P2P servers in California and New York have been removed from the service.
VPN Unlimited offers only three servers designated for torrenting:
- Ontario, Toronto (Canada)
- Paris (France)
- Bucharest (Romania)
It appears that VPN Unlimited supports torrenting only begrudgingly. According to its FAQ, “The primary use of KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is not for downloading torrents but for providing online security.”
For more robust torrenting options, we recommend considering IPVanish.
On a positive note, VPN Unlimited includes a kill switch feature designed to protect your IP address from exposure in the event of a VPN disconnection.
Bypassing Web Censorship
Able to Bypass Great Firewall
Bypassing Censorship Rating: 7.0/10
VPN Unlimited effectively masks VPN traffic as standard web traffic, enabling users to bypass state-imposed censorship. This capability includes successful operation within China, a key indicator of an effective anti-censorship VPN.
Ranked #20 out of 62 VPNs for Bypassing Web Censorship
Despite recent crackdowns on VPNs in China, VPN Unlimited remains a reliable choice for users looking to connect from within the country. Our tests on servers within China confirm consistent success in circumventing the Great Firewall.
The KeepSolid Wise protocol employed by VPN Unlimited disguises VPN traffic as standard HTTPS web traffic, making it difficult for censorship mechanisms to detect and block. This feature helps users bypass government-imposed restrictions effectively.
It is important to note that Chinese users currently have access to five VPN servers in nearby countries with free speech protections, including Singapore, which offers excellent speeds.
Additionally, due to its proprietary protocol and extensive global network, VPN Unlimited is a strong option for users in other high-censorship countries such as the UAE, Turkey, and Iran. The broad network ensures access to servers in free speech regions, aiding in effective censorship circumvention.
Security & Technical Features
Strong Security and Exclusive Encryption Protocol
Security & Technical Features Rating: 7.7/10
VPN Unlimited provides robust security with a comprehensive range of top-tier protocols, including its proprietary encryption protocol. The service is equipped with a DNS Firewall, and our tests confirmed the absence of IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks, ensuring a high level of safety.

VPN Unlimited offers strong security features, although experienced users might find its advanced options somewhat limited.
The service utilizes KeepSolid Wise TCP/UDP, a proprietary protocol that operates over TCP port 443, commonly used for secure web traffic (HTTPS). This design makes it challenging for ISPs and government censors to detect VPN usage, as the traffic appears similar to standard browser activity.
The available protocols vary depending on the device. For instance, Windows mobile devices are restricted to L2TP encryption. We generally recommend using OpenVPN or WireGuard when available.
VPN Unlimited employs AES-256 encryption, a highly secure cipher considered virtually unbreakable and used by the US federal government.
Additionally, VPN Unlimited includes a VPN kill switch that blocks all online traffic if the connection drops, preventing exposure of your true IP address.
While VPN Unlimited could enhance its service by offering its own DNS servers, it currently relies on Google Public DNS. Despite this, Google Public DNS is known for its high performance and security.
The service also features a DNS Firewall that shields users from malicious websites, phishing attempts, malware, and pop-up ads. You can enable the DNS Firewall through your VPN Unlimited account, selecting the types of websites to block or creating a custom blacklist.
Our tests also confirmed that VPN Unlimited does not exhibit any DNS leaks. You can verify this using our leak test tool.
Device and OS Compatibility
Comprehensive Device Support
VPN Unlimited offers robust compatibility across a diverse range of devices and operating systems. It supports major platforms such as Windows and macOS, and extends its services to Linux. Additionally, users can protect their Smart TVs by configuring the VPN on a compatible router.
Application Availability
VPN Unlimited is accessible through a variety of applications tailored for key platforms, including:
- Windows
- Mac
- iOS
- Android
- Linux
- Router
Pre-configured WiFi routers with the VPN software already installed are available for purchase, eliminating the need to set up multiple applications on individual devices. For those preferring to use their existing router, VPN Unlimited provides detailed, user-friendly setup instructions complete with helpful screenshots.
Support for Games Consoles and Streaming Devices
VPN Unlimited also offers comprehensive manual setup guides for devices without dedicated apps, such as Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast. It is compatible with several game consoles and streaming devices by either connecting them to a configured router or sharing the VPN connection from another device running the software, such as a laptop or smartphone. This includes:
- Apple TV
- Amazon Fire TV
- Chromecast
- Nintendo
- PlayStation
- Roku
- Xbox
While native apps for these devices would enhance convenience—something offered by some competitors like Windscribe—VPN Unlimited compensates with the ability to connect up to five devices simultaneously under a single subscription. The extensive manual setup guides available on VPN Unlimited’s support page simplify the process, making it accessible for users at all experience levels.
Browser Extensions
VPN Unlimited provides proxy extensions for several browsers, including:
- Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Firefox
- Opera
These extensions cater to a broader range of browsers compared to many other VPN services, which typically offer support for Chrome and Firefox only. Note that while proxies offer IP masking and location changes, they do not provide the encryption that a full VPN service does. Nonetheless, they are useful for lightweight browsing.
The browser extensions are straightforward to install and use, especially if the main application is already in place. They also feature a WebRTC Leak Blocker, which helps prevent potential exposure of your IP address. This feature, while beneficial, is something we believe should be a standard inclusion.
Ease of Use
Intuitive Design and Configuration
Ease of Use Rating: 8.2/10
VPN Unlimited boasts a well-designed, user-friendly interface that enhances its ease of use. The application allows for straightforward protocol changes and enables the DNS Firewall with a simple toggle. The app avoids overwhelming users with technical jargon, making it accessible for both beginners and experienced users.
Ranked #19 out of 62 VPNs for Ease of Use
VPN Unlimited’s custom applications are noted for their sleek design and intuitive functionality.
The desktop app’s main screen effectively displays connection status, selected server location, and a map showing your new IP address. While the map feature is somewhat redundant, the overall design is more streamlined compared to many other VPNs.
For those seeking customization, advanced settings are accessible via the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) and are organized with helpful integrated support for different VPN protocols.
The kill switch feature can be activated from the settings menu, which is advisable for enhanced security. However, DNS leak protection is located within the protocols menu, which may cause some confusion.
One notable feature is the ability to search for servers, eliminating the need to scroll through a lengthy list. Additionally, VPN Unlimited provides a dedicated tab for streaming-optimized servers, facilitating access to platforms like Netflix. Torrenting-enabled servers are also clearly marked, ensuring users can easily locate them.
Customer Support
High Standard of Customer Support
Customer Support Rating: 9.0/10
VPN Unlimited offers a robust customer support system, featuring a responsive live chat option for prompt assistance and a comprehensive online resource section. Although 24/7 support is not available, the quality of support provided is commendable for a mid-tier VPN service.

VPN Unlimited provides a high standard of customer support and has recently introduced a live chat feature.
During our evaluation, support agents demonstrated professionalism, friendliness, and prompt responsiveness. This level of service is commendable for a VPN provider.
Agents frequently directed us to the FAQ pages for answers, which could be somewhat frustrating, though they were willing to provide additional details upon request.
The live chat feature is not available 24/7, a service offered by many top-tier providers. However, VPN Unlimited offers round-the-clock email support, with responses typically provided within an hour.
For those who prefer not to contact support directly, VPN Unlimited’s online resources section is a well-organized and comprehensive alternative. The FAQ search functionality allows users to search by keywords rather than scrolling through lengthy lists.
The support center includes an excellent range of setup manuals and valuable information on broader topics such as online security, bypassing censorship, and data privacy, which adds to its utility.
Pricing & Value Assessment
Lifetime Subscription Value
Rating: 8.0/10
VPN Unlimited offers a lifetime subscription for a one-time payment of $199.99. This option provides continuous online protection, which can be an excellent value if you intend to use the VPN for an extended period. However, the significant upfront cost may be a deterrent if you’re uncertain about the service.
Ranked #8 Out of 62 VPNs for Pricing & Value
VPN Unlimited currently offers only two pricing plans, both of which include the same features. The value improves with a longer subscription term, given the cost per use.
- 1-Year Plan: $5.00 per month, billed annually at $59.99
- Lifetime Plan: One-time fee of $199.99
It is worth noting that VPN Unlimited has removed its monthly subscription option, which is commonly available with other VPN providers.
The one-year plan, priced at $59.99 annually, provides less flexibility compared to other VPNs like NordVPN or PIA. However, VPN Unlimited stands out for its lifetime subscription offer. While the $199.99 fee represents good value for long-term use, FastestVPN provides a more economical lifetime deal at $40.00.
Additionally, VPN Unlimited offers MonoDefense for an extra $1.66 per month. This bundle includes Smart DNS, DNS Firewall, and Passwarden (a password manager). Other VPNs often include similar features in their standard packages.
The automatic inclusion of the MonoDefense bundle at checkout can be inconvenient for users who only wish to purchase the VPN service.
Payment & Refund Options
VPN Unlimited supports the following payment methods:
- American Express
- Bitcoin
- Mastercard
- PayPal
- Visa
However, it does not accept international payment methods such as Alipay or UnionPay, nor does it offer cryptocurrency options, which might be preferred by privacy-conscious users.
