Our Score: 6.1/10
Ranked 70th out of 198 VPNs
Anonymity is the cornerstone of any VPN service, and Anonymous VPN effectively emphasizes this essential feature. While the provider adopts a lighthearted approach to privacy, it does not compromise on the technical aspects of anonymity.
In terms of security, the platform provides users with a choice between the OpenVPN and IPSec protocols, utilizing AES 256-bit encryption to enhance security. Additionally, a kill switch is incorporated to prevent IP leaks in the event of an internet disconnection.
Anonymous VPN adheres to a strict zero-logging policy concerning sensitive data. While the provider collects minimal information during registration, such as your email and payment details, it ensures that user privacy is prioritized.
For movie enthusiasts, the VPN supports P2P software for torrenting and is capable of streaming geo-blocked content from platforms like YouTube and NBC. However, it falls short in unblocking Netflix and other major streaming services.
Users in China will find that this VPN does not bypass the Great Firewall, although those in other restricted regions, including Russia, can utilize the service, as it offers servers in those locations.
Regarding pricing, Anonymous VPN provides two membership options, with a monthly subscription priced at $12. The platform also features a paid 3-day trial, although this is considered atypical in the industry. Compared to many reasonably priced VPNs reviewed, these rates are above average.
I have conducted thorough tests of various features offered by Anonymous VPN and compiled a detailed review. Is this VPN truly anonymous, or could your IP address be exposed when accessing sites like The Pirate Bay? Let’s investigate further.

Streaming Performance: Unsatisfactory
If you are considering using Anonymous VPN to access major streaming platforms such as Netflix (US, UK, Canada, EU, and Netherlands), Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, HBO Max, DAZN, Channel 4, or Hulu, it is advisable to reconsider.
Successfully Unblocked: YouTube and NBC
For those who enjoy watching videos or streaming music, Anonymous VPN is a viable option for accessing YouTube. Additionally, users can access content on NBC through this VPN service.
Blocked Access: Netflix (US/UK/Canada), BBC iPlayer, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN
Regrettably, Anonymous VPN ranks among the least effective VPNs for streaming services.
My attempts to access Netflix were unsuccessful. I connected to five different servers located in Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, and Japan, but none were able to bypass Netflix’s restrictions. Each attempt resulted in proxy error messages, redirections to the Netflix catalog specific to my location, and exceedingly slow connection speeds, which proved to be quite frustrating.
After attempting to unblock various streaming sites using nearly 12 servers, I reached out to customer support for clarification on these issues. In their response, the support team attributed the streaming problems to maintenance on the US servers.
I also attempted to access Hulu, but regrettably, I encountered an error message. Similarly, my efforts to stream HBO Max were met with a geo-restriction alert.
Speed Performance: Average
Connecting to VPN servers typically results in a decrease in speed. This reduction can be attributed to several factors, including the distance to the server—the farther away the server, the slower the connection. Other influences may include the geographical location of the source content, your Internet Service Provider (ISP), and the overall strength of your internet connection.
I conducted extensive tests to assess the impact of using Anonymous VPN on connection speeds. The results revealed a significant reduction, with over a 90% drop in download speed when connected to international servers. Initially, I tested various local servers while baselining my connection from Nairobi, Kenya, where I recorded the following speeds: ping — 22 ms; download — 5 Mbps; and upload — 4.8 Mbps without the VPN.
I began my tests by connecting to a nearby server in Nairobi, which resulted in a slight decrease in speed to 4.07 Mbps for download and 4.54 Mbps for upload.
When connected to a server in Canada, the download speed dropped by over 90% to 1.46 Mbps, but the upload speed was fairly stable at 4.30 Mbps.
A similar decrease in speed was observed when I connected to a server in Germany, where my download speed dropped to 1.19 Mbps. Finally, when testing a server in Japan, the download speed fell significantly to 0.98 Mbps.
It’s important to mention that connecting to a server on Anonymous VPN takes an average of 20 to 30 seconds, which is relatively efficient compared to other VPN services.
Are Anonymous VPN’s Speeds Adequate for Gaming? Yes
Given that Anonymous VPN utilizes the OpenVPN protocol, users can expect reasonably good speeds for gaming. I tested the network’s performance while playing Fortnite Battle Pass on a server in Germany, and I experienced no buffering, with speeds that were satisfactory for gaming.
Server Network: Limited
Unfortunately, Anonymous VPN operates with only 1,000 servers distributed across 23 countries. This limited server network can be easily counted on the provider’s website. The small number of servers often contributes to slower speeds, particularly during peak usage when multiple users are connected to the VPN.
Most of the servers are located in Europe, Asia, and Australia, with only one server in Africa and none in South America.
Location | Server List |
Europe | France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Romania, UK, Ireland |
Australia | Australia, New Zealand |
North America | Canada |
Africa | South Africa |
Asia | Singapore, Hong Kong, Russia, Japan |
